twitter q&a with Bruce Gilden

Magnum Photos had an interview with Bruce Gilden on twitter today. I managed to get three questions in.

1. I asked why he uses a vest and bag.
magnumphotos@tom_leininger That’s quite simple, vest has pockets, it’s not a fashion statement: bag holds camera/vest holds flash & light meter #gilden
2. I asked if the Billingham bag he uses is the best.
magnumphotos@tom_leininger It’s like anything for me, I’m used to it so I don’t change #gilden
3. I asked what his definition of a good photograph is.
magnumphotos@tom_leininger It has to work within the frame, and for me it has to have some emotional content #gilden

I think this is an interesting way to have a q&a in the new modern internet world. It reminded me a bit of the q&a Finbarr O’Reilly did on qik.com. It was fascinating to sit in Texas and watch a live interview from Africa all via the internet, twitter and a mobile phone.

Twitter changes a little more each day. You can follow my tweets if you want.

In the Gallery

In the spirit of David Burnett and Andrew Hetherington, I broke out the G10 and made a short video in the Fort Worth Community Arts Center Gallery Five, where sidelines will open Friday. It does not have the insight or production value of a John Harrington video, but I thought why not? I am planning on a couple of more as the show progresses.
